Anyone here a veggie?
I've eaten meat all my life but am now seriously considering becoming a vegetarian.

I'm not ashamed to call myself an animal lover and some videos I've seen recently of mass production in the meat industry are absolutely horrific. And thanks to our changing population, more and more chains and local shops are adopting halal methods which I find utterly barbaric and don't want to fund anymore.

Free range is one thing and has its merits, but I'd be lying if I said the appalling conditions these animals are subjected to in mass production methods doesn't get to me. Until now I've switched off the connection between what is on my plate and where it came from.

There are several good arguments to suggest that meat is good for a balanced diet, but the production line methods and cold detachment is really jarring to me.

I eat a lot of quorn-based products already as my girlfriend is a quasi-veggie so the transition to this kind of food doesn't bother me (some of the stuff is actually really nice and you'd be pushed to tell the difference), although I would miss the occasional burger, steak or kebab.

Has anyone else made the switch?

I did this for 5 years in my 20's.

Only really bothered me when eating at resturants as your selection is obviously limited.

Mushroom this, mushroom that.

Didn'y miss meat at all really and still eat a load of quorn stuff even now.

Don't do it Blunders!

Instead, cut right the fuck down on meat, eating mostly veggie food, of which there is loads of lovely stuff, but treating yourself to wild meat every now and then. Quality over quantity.

I know a few "veggies" that will occasionally eat some moose or reindeer or wild boar. A policy I can't argue with.

I have no time for the not eating meat because they don't want to take the life of an animal, but will happily kill a tomato or broccoli. Makes you wonder how sacred life is with some people.

Re: Anyone here a veggie?
there was a recent 'unreported world' programme on channel 4 that i luckily missed that reported on gangs of dog thieves in vietnam who steal pets and sell them on to meat dealers for £60 a dog

only saw a few clips on gogglebox but it was shocking stuff. torturing these barbaric cunts would be too kind to them

I'm not a veggie but was working on a Paul McCartney tour and all the catering was veggie and surprisingly tasty

Proper veggie food is nice , food where you just take the meat out isn't

"Veggie food" is just food without the animals FFS, it's not a separate cuisine!

joe royal,

The McCartney/PETA video was one of those in question.

I only really eat meat in sandwiches at lunchtime and when I have a meal out because, as i say, my girlfriend doesn't really eat meat. Free range chicken is about all she'll have.

Re: Anyone here a veggie?
Blunders, I have the obvious answer here. Don't call yourself a "veggie". Just eat what you want when you want to. So if like most of us you cant justfiy paying regulalry for quality, sustainable meat, eat mainly veg or meat substitutes and then treat yourself to meat when you fancy it.
Why become a "veggie" when you dont need to?
Also, whats your view on fish then? Cutting that out as well?

Re: Anyone here a veggie?
I love animals, but meat tastes a hell of a lot better than any of the shit that veggies eat and so I'll continue to dig in to the poor fuckers until the day I die, which with my diet won't be too far off.

I'm personally responsible for the deaths of hundreds of chickens a year, as I love the little clucking buggers.

Happy for my body to be chopped up and fed to any meat eating animals afterwards, as all's fair in love and war.

I would however agree that some of the ways in which they are transported and killed in other countries is a disgrace.

13, so you're happy that thousands (THOUSANDS) of tuna die, just so you can indulge in fish fingers and the like?

I doubt there is much tuna in fish fingers now isnt there? Would be too expensive. It's just cheap white fish from canada etc I think?

Re: Anyone here a veggie?
Ex, we only eat Line caught / one pole one man sustainable Tuna, and similar with all fish. Don't eat much fish at all, just occasionally for health reasons.
However bad the Fish industry is it is nowhere near as horrific as the meat industry and a fish is not a Mamal either.
